A $59 million estate on the Caribbean island of St. Barts is poised to claim the title of the island’s most expensive home for sale.
Located on the northwestern tip of the French-speaking island in the secluded Colombier neighborhood, the luxury property offers some real perks for a potential buyer with deep pockets.
“It’s up in the hills overlooking the sunset, on a private domain,” Zarek Honneysett of Sibarth Real Estate, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, told Mansion Global, which first reported the listing.
Known as Domaine de Vignette, the 2-hectare complex is the crown jewel of the gated community Les Étoiles – French for “the stars” – and is the largest of its four properties.
Although a high price to pay, it would not break an island record. Last year, a nearby Rockefeller Beach estate — named after its previous owner, David Rockefeller — sold for a record $136 million.
Built in five parts, this listed property was custom designed by its current owner, who demolished the original structure to create this retreat.
The owner, whose identity remains undisclosed, has since moved to another residence on the island.
The island itself has long been a getaway for some of the world’s wealthiest people, as well as celebrities, seeking sunny holidays in the colder months.
The estate consists of nine bungalows spread down the hill, all connected by paths and stone steps. The roads were meticulously created using locally sourced blue rock, which was “hand-carved one by one to fit perfectly together,” designer Remi Tessier told the media.
Tessier also emphasized the house’s distinctive use of materials, including Doussié wood from Central Africa and brushed spruce crafted in France.
“The style of the property is timeless, combining understated luxury with an exotic spirit,” he said. Materials “blend elegantly” together, “creating an atmosphere that is warm, natural and contemporary.”
The lushly landscaped outdoor spaces feature more than 70 species of tropical plants, including towering Bismark palms and vibrant bougainvillea. The entry leads to a shaded bar and lounge, while the main level houses a family room and master suite.
The estate also boasts a restaurant-grade kitchen, dining areas, a guest cottage with its own living space and kitchen, and a caretaker’s residence.
At the heart of the property is a swimming pool, offering a tranquil oasis.
